ANTI SLIP STRIPS & TACTILES

Installation of Tactile Ground Surface Indicators (TGSI)

A Tactile Ground Surface Indicator’s (TGSI) purpose is to provide a tactile surface on public pathways and access routes that can be felt underfoot and recognised as a warning of impending pedestrian hazard, particularly to the vision impaired and as an added safety precaution to all pedestrians.

Tactile indicators are designed to provide an enhanced level of safety in pedestrian based environments but can also be used as a noise warning for cars veering out of their lane or sleepy drivers.

There are 2 main types of tactiles:

  • Directional – helps to guide the visually impaired in an exact direction
  • Cautional – this gives the visually impaired an alert that they are near potential hazards

Anti Slip Strips for Enhanced Safety

Anti slip strips are used for enhanced grip on areas that may become prone to being slippery and dangerous when wet.

The following are practical areas of use for tactiles and anti slip strips:

  • Pedestrian crossings
  • Public transport platforms
  • Car parks
  • Shopping centres
  • Stairs
  • Ramps
  • Edging safety
